Choosing the Right Divorce Lawyer in the Orlando, Florida Area

How do you choose the right divorce attorney in the Orlando, Florida area?

You should read about the credentials of the attorney and their experience on their web page.  Do they have a lot of experience? How many years has the attorney been practicing? Has the attorney done a lot of trials? Has the attorney done a lot of Mediations?  Has the attorney done a lot of hearings?  Has the attorney had cases similar to your divorce case with the same kind of issues that you have in your case? Is the attorney AV rated by Martindale Hubbell? Has the attorney had any discipline matters with the Florida Bar? Does the attorney have positive client reviews? What awards or rankings has the attorney acquired?

You should speak with the attorney by phone, or preferably in person at an initial consultation. That way, you can determine if the attorney is a good fit for your case. Do you feel comfortable conversing with the attorney? Does the attorney know the subject matter? Do you feel comfortable with the dealing with the Orlando divorce attorney in general?

During the consultation, you should decide whether the attorney has a good grasp on the divorce subject matter. Did the attorney give you an overview of the dissolution of marriage proceeding? Did the attorney answer questions regarding what you can expect during the proceeding? Did the attorney tell you the anticipated time it should take to get certain tasks performed? Did the attorney answer the questions you had regarding a divorce? Did the attorney discuss the relevant Florida statutes regarding equitable distribution and alimony?

If you have children, did the attorney discuss the Florida statutes on best interest of the child and how the court determines child custody? Did the attorney discuss with you the need for a parenting plan?  Did the attorney inform you that you would need to take a parenting class?

Did the attorney discuss with you how child support is determined in Florida?  Did the attorney discuss with you the child support guideline worksheet?

Did the attorney tell you who would work on your case? Did the attorney tell you the retainer amount?  Did the attorney tell you his/her rate?  Did the attorney tell you the rate of the legal assistant? Did the attorney discuss the possibility of experts in your case if appropriate? Did the attorney recommend that you see a CPA and financial planner? Did the attorney tell you what the cost retainer would be in your case?

These are all things to think about when interviewing whether to hire an attorney for your divorce case.
