Have you told the Mother or Father the 2 consecutive or 2 nonconsecutive weeks you are utilizing for your timeshare with the children for your vacation time with the children? Did you do that by the date required in the parenting plan? Did the other parent do the same and advise you of the same? Did he/she do it by the date in the parenting plan?
Do you know the summer schedule in your parenting plan? How does it vary from your regular schedule, if at all? Or, is it the same as your regular schedule? Make sure you check the summer schedule in advance. Do you know when you are to timeshare with the children this summer?
Does your parenting plan have specific requirements for out of state travel? Does your parenting plan have specific provisions for out of country travel? Do you have to notify the other parent so many days in advance before travel? How many days in advance must you notify the other parent of out of state or out of country travel? Have you notified the other parent as required in the parenting plan?
Does the parenting plan require you provide the other parent with a travel itinerary? Did you do that in accordance with the parenting plan?
Do you have a right to speak with the child(ren) while they are on vacation with the other parent? How often does the parenting plan allow you to speak to the children while they are on vacation? Have you discussed that with the other parent? Will there be cell service in the area where the children are going? If no, have you made contingent arrangements to speak with the child(ren)?
These are just a few pointers for a successful summer time-sharing schedule. Remember, the key is being aware of and knowing the requirements for the summer visitation schedule in advance, and being prepared in advance. This will avoid confusion and last-minute problems.
