Here is what is new in Marital and Family Law in the Orlando, Florida area. The Florida Senate has introduced SB 682: Florida Guide to a Healthy Marriage which is a GENERAL BILL by Senator Baxley. We will need to see if it passes this year. It did not pass last year.
In states Florida Guide to a Healthy Marriage; Creating the Marriage Education Committee within the Department of Children and Families for the purpose of creating the Florida Guide to a Healthy Marriage; authorizing the committee to obtain private funds for the costs of printing and distributing copies of the guide; requiring clerks of court to post an electronic copy of the guide on the court’s website and provide printed copies to applicants for marriage licenses under certain circumstances; prohibiting the issuance of a marriage license until petitioners verify that both parties have obtained and read the Florida Guide to a Healthy Marriage or some other presentation of similar information, etc.
I appeared on Fox 35 News on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. Here is the link regarding the bill on the news with information on it.
Overall, it seems like a good idea. People should discuss their finances and marriage ahead of being married. Although some may think it is government intrusion into your privacy, it is still good advice to anyone getting married. It is better to plan before marriage, some people even obtain prenuptial agreements, then to scramble once a divorce is filed. Many people regret the way they handled their finances during the marriage. Many people have no idea as to the assets and debts they have accumulated during the marriage.
Many people never discuss prior to marriage how they will parent their children during the marriage It is better to have an advance plan in marriage regarding your finances, and parenting of your children then to struggle with your spouse on each new issue that you must address during the marriage. This is just food for thought to get people thinking about their upcoming marriages and how to improve their current marriage.
