The holiday season is here. Christmas is near approaching. The holidays are stressful enough for most people. They do not need the extra added stress of a Marital and Family Law case. The last thing they want to do during the holiday season is fight with their spouse. People want peace during the holiday season. They do not want strife in their lives. People try to be nicer during the holiday seasons.
That is why many people refrain from doing much regarding their Marital and Family Law case from the period of Thanksgiving to after the New Year. Things slow down from about the last week in November to the first or second week in December. People want to enjoy the holiday season without the stress and anxiety of acrimony that can be associated with a contentious marital and family law case.
Further, many of the court staff and judges along with the judges’ staff are off during the holiday season because they want to enjoy the season and spend time with family. Many attorneys are on break for the holidays too. Therefore, the filings that attorneys do with the court in their marital and family law case may slow down during the holiday season.
Usually there are fewer court hearings and trials during that time too because the judges and their staff are off from work. Further, there are not as many mediations because it is harder to coordinate between parties and attorneys since many people are off from work and out of town. People are unavailable for hearings, trials and mediations due to the Christmas and Hanukkah Season.
The holidays are a time to enjoy friends, family and relax. They are also a time where you may be off from work and you can catch up on things in your life that you have been wanting to do for several weeks or several months but had no time to do.
For people that have a busy work schedule, but are currently off for the holiday break, it may be the only time that they have to meet with their attorney or do what is required of them for their case. If your attorney is not off for the holidays, this may be a good time for you to work on your case.
