Tips for ZOOM or MICROSOFT TEAMS for Meetings, Hearings, and Trials

The Orlando Sentinel had an interesting article in the Sunday, July 5, 2020 paper titled, “Four 4 Tips to Sound Like a Pro in Virtual Meetings.” In the article, it is It explained how television personalities constantly work on their vocal delivery. They explain how you can do that too. They say that if you improve the quality of your voice and how you use your voice, you will make a strong impression on the others participating remotely.

The article recommends that you follow these tips:

1. Check your pace. Pace is the speed at which you speak. The articles states that researchers find that in casual conversations, we speak rather quickly, 170 words per minute or higher.

2. They recommend that you change your pace of speech to meet the surroundings. Usually, this means slowing down your pace.

3. Another technique recommended is to pause for impact. They say one way to slow down your pace of your delivery is to pause after a key message. This enables for the word to sink in.

4. Do not rush through your presentation. When you rush through your presentation, you tend to use filler words like ‘um’ and ‘ahh’ to fill the space.

5. Use silence as a tactic. Nothing is more dramatic than a well-placed pause.

6. Enunciate every word.

7. Do not clip the end of words. This is important in remote meetings because it is already a noticeable problem in virtual meetings where it is already hard to clearly hear every word.

8. Use a high-quality microphone.

9. Experts say those microphones that are built into your computers are not very good. Experts recommend that you invest in a headset or USB microphone.

Hopefully, you found these tips interesting, insightful, and helpful. Good luck on your next ZOOM or MICROSOFT TEAM meeting, hearing, or trial.
