The Mental Health Impact of a Divorce in the Orlando or the Lake Mary, Florida Area

Many times, you hear about the fiscal impact of a divorce. You hear that you will have half of what you had before the divorce. You hear that, financially, things will probably be more difficult after the divorce because now there is one income, whereas before, there may have been two incomes paying the same bills. You always hear about this aspect. However, have you heard about the mental health impact of divorce?

There are mental health impacts of divorce. Studies suggest that people divorcing experience increased rates of depression and anxiety while going through the divorce process. This can be expected when you are going through a life-changing event.

What can you do to help yourself? You may want to see a counselor or join a support group. You may want to do this for yourself and also for your children. You want to be in the best mental health possible so you can deal with your children if they experience depression and anxiety from their parents’ divorce. Further, you want to be in the best mental health shape you can during this arduous process for yourself.

You may need to enroll your children in therapy. You want to be able to notice the signs if your children are having a challenging time. Are they having problems concentrating in school that have only occurred since the divorce happened? Are they acting out in class? Are they failing to turn in homework assignments? Are they angry? Are they withdrawn?

An attorney can help their client by making sure they are getting appropriate treatment for the state they are in regarding their mental health. You want to make sure that you are thinking clearly so that you can understand what your attorney is explaining to you legally. You need to be of a clear mind so you can assist your attorney in preparing your case. Making sure you are following your doctor’s and therapist’s orders is crucial to doing the best you can for yourself during your divorce case.
