How Much Does A Marital & Family Lawyer Cost in the Orlando, Florida Area

How much a Marital &  Family Lawyer costs in the Orlando, Florida area depends on many factors. First and foremost, attorneys are like cars. There are Chevys and BMWs. You would not pay the same price for a Chevy as a BMW.  You will not pay the same price for a high caliber attorney as a  attorney that has just graduated from law school. A young attorney may only charge you $200 an hour. However, a Board Certified Marital  & Family Law Attorney or an experienced attorney of twenty to thirty years experience, may charge you $400 an hour or more than $400 an hour depending on their experience and qualifications.

Some attorneys will give you a free consultations. Other attorneys will not do that. Most attorneys will accept major credit cards, checks, or cash. Some attorneys will allow you to go on a payment plan while others will not allow that. Again, experienced established attorney with a good reputation usually are in a position to chose the clients they want to represent. Whereas, a younger attorney with less experience may be more inclined to work with you regarding payments.

This is information you should obtain before you sign a written retainer agreement with the attorney. An experienced attorney may have an engagement contract that is eight pages or longer. You need to read that contract carefully. The agreement will explain your rights and obligations regarding payment; and the attorney’s position and actions he/she will take if you fail to pay the attorney promptly. You cannot expect an attorney to work for you if you cannot pay. Most likely, the attorney will withdraw from the case if you fail to pay them.

You may request attorney fees and costs from the other party. You will need to show you have a need for the fees and the other party has the ability to pay the fees. However, you need to set hearing which sometimes you cannot obtain for two, three months or longer in order for judge to determine if they will award fees and costs to you.

The attorney will also charge you dependent on whether you are obtaining a simple uncontested dissolution of marriage or you expect heavily litigated complex and protracted litigation. The more you litigate, the more you spend.
