More Tips on ZOOM or MICROSOFT TEAMS Court Appearances in the Orlando, Florida Area

Most businesses are conducting meetings by ZOOM. The Florida Court System is conducting all nonessential hearing and trials by ZOOM or MICROSOFT TEAMS. This is for the health and safety of the judge, courthouse personnel, the attorneys, and the parties. Furthermore, in the Central Florida area, Orange and Volusia Counties are two of the five counties in the state of Florida chosen by the Governor for a pilot program on remote civil jury trials. ZOOM and MICROSOFT OFFICE seem to be the wave of the future.

What can you do to be in the know for a ZOOM or MICROSOFT TEAM appearances? Here are a few tips. If your microphone is on during a Case Management Conference, then do not do things in the background because that noise can be heard by everyone that is at the Case Management Conference. You will disrupt the proceeding. Put your microphone on mute until you are called by the judge.

Remember, if you want to deliver a serious business message at a hearing or trial, wear the appropriate attire, a shirt and jacket, or a dress or blouse with pants or skirt. It is probably best to wear dress pants and a skirt too. You never know when you may accidentally stand up and expose your shorts or pajama bottoms. That could be embarrassing. Do not give too much information such as you have on pajama bottoms or shorts. It would be embarrassing if you were caught on ZOOM saying that. Dress as if you were at a hearing or trial at the courthouse. Furthermore, if you are appearing from your home, make sure you clean up, declutter, and curate your home to make sure that it reveals the you that you want to reveal, not the other you.

You should start with light. Open blinds so you have natural light coming in the room. However, natural light should not be behind you. Facing natural light is ideal. If your virtual meeting is at night or in a windowless room, set a light source directly in front of you.

Do a soundcheck. Do a background check to make sure the space behind you is clear and clean. Do not embarrass yourself. Tailor the scene to promote the best you. If you cannot find one place in your house that looks camera ready, you can drop in a virtual background. Remember, your best angle is straight ahead. Raise your laptop monitor to eye level and head-on. These are a few helpful tips from Marni Jamestown that appeared in the Orlando Sentinel.
