Aging and Retirement in the Orlando, Florida Area

There was an interesting book review in the first quarter of 2022 NAELA News. Linda Anderson, LLM, CELA reviewed the book “Why Did I Walk into This Room? A Thinking Person’s Guide to Growing Older” by Kennedy F. Hegland and Lawrence Frolik. Anderson found this book to be a valuable answer to a lay person’s concerns about aging, elder law, and planning for the future.

Who Should Read the Book

The intended audience for this book is individuals who are entering their retirement years and beyond. According to Anderson, the book is a breath of fresh air on the challenging subject of death and dying. In this book, the authors lay out the many things that people should think about as they age.

Topics the Book Covers

The book covers the sex life of seniors, exercise routines, living trusts, and health care directives. The authors state that one clear message of the book is that life does not end at retirement. Anderson states that the book also discusses finding purpose and joy in the final stages of your life. The book has an exercise where readers write out their ambitions in the areas of work, learning, serving, and creating.

Anderson finds that the book is realistic about the different challenges and situations facing families. The book also gives people a better understanding of how to have a more productive and successful meeting with an estate planning attorney.

How it Helps Readers Navigate Retirement

In this book, you’ll find short lists of helpful questions about visiting a retirement community. The book discusses retirement, different living options, making your house safe as you age, and how to start a conversation with your children regarding your wishes.

The book also deals with common health related questions and how to effectively communicate with your team of doctors, surgeons, and lawyers. It discusses identity theft and scams. The book includes a Do-Not-Call registry.

Another section goes over documents you need to protect your wishes. Other sections of the book deal with mental illness and the challenges of caregiving. You can also find information about topics like death, hospice, probate, and grief. If you have more questions regarding a Marital and Family Law matter, you may call Ann Marie Giordano Gilden at Ann Marie Giordano Gilden, P.A. at 407-732-7620 and set an initial consultation.
