Choosing a Nursing Home for a Loved One in the Orlando, Florida Area

Are you in the process of searching for a good nursing home for a loved one? Wondering where to go to check out the facility to make sure your loved ones are in a safe, secure atmosphere? Did you know that you can go to Medicare.gov for help? Medicare.gov allows you to find and compare nursing homes in your area. Further, you can obtain information about nursing homes, including what Medicare does and does not cover. You can filter the options of your search to include inspection results, location, number of beds, and more.

Find Information Online

When comparing nursing homes, check out the overall star ratings. The overall rating of the nursing home is based on a nursing home’s performance on three sources: health inspections, staffing, and quality of relative care. You should also view detailed staffing data, including the staffing hours of different types of staff  and staff turnover rates. You can also see COVID-19 vaccination rates for residents and staff at nursing homes in your area. Further, you can find nursing home contact information and directions.

Ask People You Know

You should also ask friends, relatives, and neighbors that have a loved one in a nursing home about their loved one’s experience at the facility. You can call the director and ask to see the nursing home and ask the questions mentioned in the paragraph above. You can check with your loved one’s estate planning attorney to find out about facilities and what they know about the facility.

Other Things to Consider

You may want to consider the number of times per week you will visit your loved one at the nursing home. If you will go to the nursing home to visit a loved one several times per week, it will be easier on you to have your loved one close by your home. Does your loved one have any friends or relatives already in a facility? You can check and speak with their families, too. It may also help your loved one adjust to their new home if they already know someone who lives there.
